About Doulas
Q: What is a birth doula? A: A birth doula is a trained professional who provides continuous physical, emotional, and informational support to a person before, during, and shortly after childbirth. Q: Do I really need a doula? A: While optional, studies show having a doula can reduce labor interventions, shorten labor, and improve overall satisfaction. Many families find the support invaluable. Q: How is a doula different from a midwife or nurse? A: A doula does not provide medical care. Midwives and nurses manage the clinical side of birth, while doulas focus on comfort, guidance, and advocacy.
Services and Logistics
Q:What areas do you serve? A: I provide in person birth support for families local to Kelowna and West Kelowna. Remote consultations are also available for families outside of my area. Q:How do I book a doula? A: Booking is easy—contact me via my website contact form, email, or phone to schedule a consultation and discuss your birth and education needs. Q:What are your rates and payment options? A: Rates vary depending on the support package chosen. I accept cash or email money transfer and offer flexible payment plans for those that require them. Q:Do you offer consultations before birth? A: Yes! All clients start with a consultation to review expectations, preferences, and how I can best support your birth or postpartum journey.
Labour and Birth Support
Q:Can a doula support me in a hospital, birth centre, or home birth? A: Yes! I provide continuous support in all birth settings, working alongside your healthcare team to support you and your partner and help you advocate for your wishes. Q:How does a doula help with pain management? A: Doulas use techniques such as positioning, massage, breathing, and relaxation methods to help reduce stress and discomfort. Q:Can a doula attend more than one birth at a time? A: No. Each birth requires full attention, so I only commit to one birth at a time to ensure uninterrupted support. Q:Will my doula give medical advice? A: No. I provide evidence-based information and emotional support but do not diagnose or give medical instructions.
Common Questions from Clients
Q:Can I contact you if I have questions before booking your services? A: Yes! I encourage families to connect with me for an in person, or virtual consultation so that we can chat about your needs and vision for your birth support. Q: How do you work with my partner to offer support? A: I guide and coach your partner (or support person) on ways to provide comfort, encouragement, and hands-on assistance during labor, helping them feel confident while ensuring you both feel supported throughout the birth experience. Q:Can a doula help with emotional support for postpartum mood changes? A: Yes. While not a therapist, I provide empathetic support, resources, and guidance to help parents navigate the emotional challenges of postpartum life. Q: Do you offer breastfeeding support? A: Yes! I provide guidance and practical support with breastfeeding, including helping you with latch, positioning, troubleshooting common challenges, and offering encouragement to build confidence for you and your baby.
