After years of personal study on the health of women and their roles in the world, I was driven to travel abroad to learn about my ancestors, the importance of nations/tribes and communities, and the many different ways people incorporate tradition and ceremony into their lives. I packed up, and along with my husband and notebook, I took off to learn and experience all that I could. Eventually, we felt it was time to have a family of our own and after seeing just how elevating a strong support system could be when raising a family, we decided to settle down in our longtime home and put down roots right here in Kelowna.
When it came time to prepare for the birth of my son, and to plan for my postpartum, I knew that I needed a Doula. My Doula supported me through my pregnancy, labour and the first weeks postpartum with care and strength and helped me to trust my body, my baby and my own inherent skills as a new parent. After my youngest was born it all clicked and I knew what my next step was: I was resolved to become a Doula/Birth Worker/Birth Keeper myself.
Pregnancy, birth and the period following the arrival of a baby is such a powerful time of transition; it is a time when a system of support and love is built and nurtured with the help of friends, family, neighbors, and important members of the community. As a Doula, my goal is to help families to feel confident, educated and empowered in their bodies, through birth, when welcoming a baby into the home and when parenting and making decisions that are right for their own personal beliefs. With carefully curated resources and referrals, along with emotional and physical support and with your mental and spiritual well-being in mind, I strive to help build a foundation for parents to be.
